The Industry Road Safety Alliance South West was formed in 2008 to help mitigate and manage risks associated with industry road traffic with the ultimate outcome of improving safety and reducing trauma for all road users.
The South West Alliance aims to do this by:
- Being a strategic road safety group that acts as a conduit of information on local issues and opportunities.
- Acting as a road safety advocate that identifies and advocates for action to improve outcomes.
- Raising awareness and educating road users about local road safety risks and opportunities.
- Developing relationships and sharing information to improve road safety locally.
- Working with similar alliances to improve road safety throughout Western Australia.
The South West Alliance takes in four industry players, one heavy haulage operator, three local governments, one local government-community group and four state government agencies across the area bounded by Boddington, Collie, Bunbury and Pinjarra.
Current members are Newmont Boddington Gold, Premier Coal, South32 Worsley Alumina, Synergy, QUBE Ports and Bulk, Boddington Shire, Collie Shire, Harvey Shire, RoadWise, Department of Transport, Main Roads WA and WA Police.

Drive to conditions campaign
During 2017, the Industry Road Safety Alliance South West launched a campaign urging road users to drive to the conditions – be they road, weather or traffic conditions. The campaign included videos and posters featuring personal experiences and messages from Alliance members:
Shine a light on road safety campaign
The Industry Road Safety Alliance South West produced a video as part of the 2017 Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign featuring the story of a local family impacted by road trauma. In the video, Lauren Jackson talks about the devastation caused by the death of her younger brother Connor in a car crash near their home town of Collie.
Fatigue and distraction campaign
In 2013, the Industry Road Safety Alliance South West produced a series of videos addressing the signs of fatigue and distraction. These 2-3 minutes videos use whiteboard animations to promote these messages.
In 2014, the Industry Road Safety Alliance South West produced a video covering the purpose and intent of the group.
In 2011, the Industry Road Safety Alliance South West produced three videos urging people to make the right choice on our roads during the Christmas holiday season.
