School’s back for 2020, slow down and be vigilant

Western Australian road users are reminded to be extra cautious as excited school students return to the classroom next week.

Motorists are required to adhere to 40km/h speed limit with school zones operational from 7.30am to 9am and 2.30pm to 4pm on school days, unless otherwise signposted.

“Children can be unpredictable around roads and vehicles, but even more so at the start of the new school year which is an extremely exciting time,” said Road Safety Council Chairman Iain Cameron.

“We remind all motorists to be extra vigilant around schools and on local roads with children walking or riding to school, and to stick to the slower speed limits around schools during drop off and pick up times.”

Parents are also reminded to ensure their child is appropriately restrained in their vehicle by checking which child car restraint is suitable for their child on the Road Safety Commission’s Seatbelt Safety Page.
