Aussie favourites bring home Australia Day drink driving message
24 Jan 2018
The State Government’s Australia Day drink driving community education campaign uses two Aussie favourites to bring home the drink driving message to West Australian drivers.
Acting Commissioner Iain Cameron said the long weekend campaign provided a unique way to remind drivers that if they planned to drink, plan not to drive.
“We still see alcohol-related deaths featuring too prominently in our road statistics, so we’ve got to keep getting those messages through in different ways,” said Mr Cameron.
“By using the humble pizza box we can reach into people’s homes with the message ‘Let’s hope it’s only pizza on your breath. If you’re drinking, just don’t drive’.”
The drink driving message can be found on the inside lid of 50,000 pizza boxes and will be distributed by pizza shops across the metropolitan area over the next ten days.

In the Road Safety Commission’s complementary social media campaign, the image of a lamb chop transitions into a hand-held breathalyser with the message, ‘Let’s hope it’s only lamb on your breath this Australia Day’.
Double demerits will be enforced from midnight Wednesday 24 January until midnight Sunday 28 January, with double penalties applying to speeding, seat belt, red light, mobile phone and drink and drug driving offences.
